Twenty-one-page compilation of records from the Jefferson County Coroner’s investigation into the September 15, 1963 death of Johnnie Brown Robinson. The file includes handwritten scene sketches and investigative notes, information concerning witnesses and the circumstances of the shooting, a formal September 26, 1963 coroner’s certification, a coroner case card, postmortem documentation, a hospital admitting report, death-registration reference material, and photographs documenting Robinson’s injuries.
The coroner’s certification identifies Robinson as 16 years old and states that he was dead on arrival at Hillman Hospital after being struck by shotgun pellets fired by Birmingham Police Officer Jack Parker. The coroner declined to issue a verdict at that time and requested that the matter be presented to the grand jury. The compilation preserves both formal death-investigation records and working materials used during the coroner’s inquiry.
